  • Joint Announcement from St. James' & Trinity

    It is with God’s great blessing that we announce that Trinity Wethersfield and St. James Glastonbury have a new Priest in Charge!  Reverend Steven Wilco will be starting his tenure with us on November 1st.  Steven, as he prefers to be called, comes to us from Chicopee Massachusetts where he is finishing up as Interim Canon to the Ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts.

    Steven is an ELCA Lutheran pastor who has previously served in two pastor calls before moving into diocesan work.  He is very excited to return to us as a pastor.  Since  the last week in July the Trinity and St. James discernment teams have been meeting with Steven to discern his appropriateness for us (and us for him), and in every meeting he has exceeded our expectations.  We even gathered for a full church service with Steven, where he delivered an extremely prayerful and impactful sermon.  Our collective impression is that Steven is very deep in his faith and is passionate about working with both of our parishes.

    St. James’ and Trinity vestries and discernment committees have worked over the last year to get to know each other.  Together, we talked about how to structure interview conversations, drafted questions, worshiped together.  We listened to God’s nudging and dreamt about this day when we could announce a new spiritual leader.  We are grateful for your prayers and support and look forward to sharing God’s love with you, our communities and Steven, in the years ahead..

Prayer for Transition

God of Love, on our journey of discernment, you have helped us overcome obstacles, but you kept our spirits hopeful, and once again we have reclaimed our joy. We praise and thank you for guiding
Rev. Steven’s path to us.

As we enter in this new venture between St. James’ and Trinity there will be excitement and even some anxiety. We thank you for your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love. We thank you for the gifts, talents, and skills you have showered on our congregations. They were essential and valuable during our time of transition. Be with St. James’, Trinity, and Rev. Steven as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another. We ask this in Jesus Holy Name.
